TBT- The Evolution of Camelot

Throwback Thursday:

You can’t know where you are going if you don’t know where you’ve been, and like most kingdoms, the 3PL industry is constantly evolving with new technologies, trends and updates. This Thursday, Camelot is taking at a look at our history by throwing it back to the very beginning.

The legendary King Arthur led the kingdom of Camelot in a time and place of idyllic happiness. For centuries scholars have debated the precise location of Camelot and said, “Camelot, located nowhere in particular, can be anywhere.” But the modern Camelot is located in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Kingdom arose in 1984 and entered the third party logistics industry in 1987 by introducing 3PL WMS. The software has now been installed in facilities across North and Central America. Evolving from a mythical castle to a two-man operation in 1984, Camelot now has a team of over 30 talented software designers, programmers, consultants and individuals.

During the early years of the PC, we released one of the first 3PL WMS systems, which was written in COBOL. In the mid-90’s we realized the need for a graphical system and began developing a system which was written in Delphi. In 2000, we discovered the Navision ERP (Dynamics NAV) which we felt offered the perfect platform for a 3PL operation. We quickly began programming what we now call 3PLink Excalibur.

The first 3PLink system was sold in 2001 and has since been implemented in hundreds of 3PL operations. 3PLink Excalibur has consistently been enhanced and has progressed from 3PLink NAV to the current 3PLink Excalibur, which is our 3rd generation product.
